This past week, both Jason Taylor and Jeremy Shockey have new teams. Jason Taylor joins the Redskins, giving them the boost off the edge that they needed on defense after Philip Daniels went down for the season. And Jeremy Shockey will be partying in New Orleans, giving them the big man over the middle that they have desperately needed for years.
First, lets start with Jason Taylor. The Redskins acquired a dominant defensive end, as well as a great teammate and leader. Taylor will give a big boost to the Skins off the edge and in the locker room. There has been speculation that Taylor would be traded since January or February, when the Dolphins hired Bill Parcells to take over the team. Despite all the rumors, it seemed that Taylor would begin the season with the team with the worst record in the NFL last season, but Sunday, the Redskins pulled the trigger and brought in the former Defensive Player of the Year. This move affects the NFC East greatly. It gives Washington a big defensive boost and advantage over other teams. It seems that all four teams in the NFC East have fantastic defenses, and it will be quite a season with all four teams capable of making the playoffs. It has become the best division in football.
As for Jeremy Shockey, he finally joins the Saints after the rumors were swirling on draft day. The Saints should be thrilled as they get the threat they had needed over the middle ever since Drew Brees signed with the team. To have another threat in the passing game will be huge for Brees and the Saints, who look to get back to the playoffs after missing them last season. Shockey's attitude and intensity will be huge for New Orleans, and the fans will fall in love with him just as many did in New York. From the Giants perspective, they proved they had no need for Shockey after playing the entire postseason without him in route to winning the Super Bowl. This move instantly makes the Saints the favorites to win the NFC South, and make another run at the NFC Championship.
