What to Watch For: Day 3
Sorry for the late posting. 18 holes of golf and dinner out consumed most of my day. Anyways, here's what you can look forward to watching tonight during NBC's nonstop coverage of the Beijing games. Playing against a tandem from Cuba, the U.S. women's beach volleyball team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh try to continue toward a second straight Olympic gold medal (9:00 PM ET). Then, the men's team gymnastics final, where China, Japan, Germany, the U.S. and others vie for medal podium positions (10:00 PM ET). The American men's team secured a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games, but are missing the dynamic duo of Paul and Morgan Hamm who propelled the U.S. to that medal in Athens but are out of these games with injuries. And Michael Phelps swims for his third gold medal of the Beijing Games, in the 200m free -- an event in which he is the world record holder, but should face significant competition from teammate Peter Vanderkaay, South Korea's Park Tae-hwan, and South Africa's Jean Basson (10:16 PM ET). Phelps will also swim in the semifinals of the 200m butterfly, an event he is heavily favored to win the gold medal in (11:10 PM ET). Aaron Peirsol and Natalie Coughlin also chase gold, in the men's and women's 100m back. (women's-10:23 PM ET and men's- 10:31 PM ET). Be sure to tune in.
